52 Weeks Art Journal - Week 25 - Summer

 Hello everyone.

This week Raspberry Blue Sky has chosen Summer as her art journal theme. Here is my page. I'm linking up to Mia's Butterfly theme at Art Journal Journey and Try It On Tuesday's Here Comes Summer theme.

I used some teabags for my background, swiped some turquoise acrylic paint over it, then added some pen scribbles using my left hand.

The art doll was created using a tutorial by Megan Whisner Quinlan, from a free collage fodder course by Willa Wanders Workshops. I cut out some butterflies and flowers from the same piece of collage.

Here are the 3 art dolls I created for the course, using stamps by Dina Wakley, pieces of collage, some of my handmade washi tapes, paint pens, and some decorative trim and gems.

Hope you having a happy and healthy week.
Thanks for visiting,

Alison xox

  1. I do like your patterned butterflies, that's a clever way to make them.
Teabags as a background - that works really well.
    It's a lovely page.
The art dolls are great and I love your own-made washi tape and collage stripes.

  2. Many years ago I got to take a class with Dina and we made paper dolls with her stamps. It is fun to see yours. I love the page too. The teabags make a great background and love how they look. Hope your feeling good all over today (no toothache or arm ache). Hugs-Erika

  4. Oh Alison, I do like your art dolls. isn't it great using washi like that? I would never have thought of it until I did a course with Marjie Kemper. Then all of a sudden everyone was doing it. At last I am starting to use my stash.
Your journal age - love it, can imagine the texture you have got with the teabag paper and that turquoise goes so well with the colour of the teabags. I really thought the face was a stamp. Well done you on drawing a face that equals those of some of the big names we see around today.
Hope your elbow is starting to heal a bit and the support is helping - also the tooth extraction - hope it has settled down now.
    Hugs, Neet xx

    1. Thanks Neet! The face is a stamp by Dina Wallet, I didn't draw it myself. I'm still resting my elbow as much as I can. Tooth is a lot better though 😊 xx

  7. Yum! I'll have to try the teabag layer, when I've done mixed media pages with paint, I often lay down some masking tape or book page squares but have not tried tea bags. Gorgeous page and dolls, xoxo

    2. It's not teabag art as such, but I used emptied teabags as my first layer Peggy.

  8. First, I love those dolls. However, the one on the left looks like something Claudine Hellmuth would have created, from the round cheeks to the clown hat. Hers were called Poppets! I was surprised they were all by Dina Wakley.

Your journal page is beautiful. The way you incorporated the teabags and the turquoise paint was great. And all that texture. I want to run my hands over it. Loved your use of butterflies, too. You always find a way to support Art Journal Journey and this is so sweet using Mia's theme. I was glad to read you used your left hand to create the squiggly lines, too. Hope your tooth is better, also. Get well soon, dear.
