February Journal Recipe Day 9

Hello Everyone!

It's Day 9 of my February Journal Recipe Instagram collaboration with Shilpa, and today our prompts are...

Colour - Turquoise.

Shape - Scribbled Circles.

Technique 1 - Draw a quick self-portrait.

Technique 2 - Add paint splashes.

You must use a minimum of 3 prompts.

Here's what I came up with...

If you follow my blog, you'll know that scribbles and paint splashes are my style, as well as quick faces occasionally.

I'm linking my page to Elizabeth and Bleubeard's What's Your Style theme at Art Journal Journey.

More Life Book Art

 Happy Sunday Everyone!

Here are a few more pieces of Life Book art.

Holly McLaughlin - Mindful Art. I'm not really into meditation in art, but I did enjoy creating this abstract piece, and adding all of the marks.

Emma Petitt - This class blew me away. Using a magazine image for reference, we painted in the shading first in a very abstract way, then added the facial outlines and details. I love how this turned out, and I'll try this technique again. I had to add some splashes of paint, just to make it my own 😉

Dyan Reaveley - Art Journaling with Prompts. On top of a simple painted background (I used a Gelli Plate to create mine), we cut some small phrases from magazines, then wrote in some thoughts relating to them. To hide the journaling a little, I created a flap, and added some of my hand-carved stamp creatures. I'm linking this page to Tracey's My Favourite Colour Is October theme at Art Journal Journey.

LifeBook 2022 Taster Sessions - A few More Pieces

 Hello Everyone.

Here are a few more pieces from Tamara Laporte's LifeBook Taster Sessions.

A Quirky Lady with Toni Burt. Graphite pencil sketch with watercolour paint.

Altered playing cards with Shay Michelle. Collage and inspirational quotes with Tim Holtz phrase stickers.

Creating perfectly imperfect flowers with Francisca Nunes. Using dead flowers as inspiration, and using water soluble pencils, charcoal, and black ink. I added washes of diluted coffee, and some splashes of coffee and ink.

We ripped up the pages to create collage fodder.

52 Weeks Art Journal - Week 21 - Face/Portrait

Hi Everyone!

The theme for week 21 of Raspberry Blue Sky's 52 Weeks Art Journal Instagram challenge is Face/Portrait.

Here is my portrait. I brayered on some leftover orange paint, then used a blue Woody watercolour pencil to sketch the face. I applied water with a paintbrush to activate the lines, then used a black gel pen to add scribbly outlines to the face, and to write the words. I added some splashes with the wet pencil and a paintbrush loaded with water.

Hopefully the language of the eyes qualifies this page for Elle's Language theme at Art Journal Journey.

I'm typing this left-handed, as I seem to have developed a Bursitis lump on my right elbow, which is quite painful. So please forgive me if I don't visit you very quickly.

Keep safe and well,

Hugs,

Alison xox

Creative JumpStart Day 17

I was so excited to see Iris Fritschi-Cussens' The Story Of Me lesson on Day 17 of CJS. I discovered Iris' work last year, and I really love her grungy style and edgy portrait art.

Here's my take on her lesson. I'm linking this page to Erika's Favourite Things theme at Art Journal Journey.

I enjoyed myself so much, I did another one! This one was for the 52weeksartjournal challenge run by Raspberrybluesky on Instagram. This week's theme was 'Note To Self'.

Happy Friday to you all! I hope you have a great weekend!

Art Journal Journey - Hold The Line

 Happy October Everyone!

I've been taking the free Lifebook Taster Session classes, run by Tamara Laporte of Willowing, and this watercolour mixed media portrait was a class by artist Toni Burt. I wrote some lines of asemic text in her hair and across her shoulders and neck, so I'm linking up to Chris' theme of Hold The Line at Art Journal Journey.

I'm fairly new to watercolour, and I only have a cheap set of pans, but I'm really pleased with how this turned out. Adding the shadows was a bit scary, but as I don't do perfect, it's ok for me :-) Toni Burt was a great teacher, I love her art style and attitude.

Thanks for visiting, have a happy and creative day,

Alison xx
