Art Journal Journey - Hold The Line

 Happy October Everyone!

I've been taking the free Lifebook Taster Session classes, run by Tamara Laporte of Willowing, and this watercolour mixed media portrait was a class by artist Toni Burt. I wrote some lines of asemic text in her hair and across her shoulders and neck, so I'm linking up to Chris' theme of Hold The Line at Art Journal Journey.

I'm fairly new to watercolour, and I only have a cheap set of pans, but I'm really pleased with how this turned out. Adding the shadows was a bit scary, but as I don't do perfect, it's ok for me :-) Toni Burt was a great teacher, I love her art style and attitude.

Thanks for visiting, have a happy and creative day,

Alison xx

  1. Gosh Alison, I watched this tutorial and I have to say, I like how your page turned out. It certainly looks a lot like the one Burt shared. It's a great entry for Chris's theme at Art Journal Journey, too.

  2. Lovely piece, I have mine done and dusted, too, it was a fun exercie. My watercolours are those I had as a kid at school, I have just bought some new pans here and there to replace those used up. And they still do the job just fine! Have fun, hugs, Valerie

  4. Wow Alison, she is amazing. The lines of text are cool and I see lines in the flowers and a strand of hair, and so many great details that aren't line also. This sounds like a good class. Thanks for joining us at Art Journal Journey. Hugs-Erika

  5. Thanks for visiting my blog for AJJ, I came over to return the favour and immediately recognised this lady - I am also in the taster sessions. I love Toni Burt so much, I think I would like to hang out and drink tea with her. She is also featured in the Kaleidoscope class. Anyway, this is awesome, I really like how the page turned out and what you did with the class project. I have yet to start mine... Elle xx

  9. There's so much to see Alison, i'm really happy you#re enjoying the taster course too. You don't have to have expensive watercolours, if there's pigment there's life and you've created magic with yours. Toni is a great tutor & artist, i'm so glad you shared your own take on her taster session xx
